The Special Populations program provides remediation to students in career and technical areas of study. Career & Technical Division students who are disadvantaged or disabled will receive Special Population Services. Special Populations identifies students into six categories:

  • Individuals from economically disadvantaged families
  • Individuals preparing for nontraditional fields
  • Single parents, including single pregnant women
  • Displaced homemakers
  • Limited in English language proficiency
  • Individuals with disabilities

SPECIAL POPULATIONS SERVICES
The purpose of Special Populations Services is to enable special populations students to experience success in their chosen Career & Technical programs. Special Population personnel provide instruction for the following:

  • Assistance in completing applications for registration, job application, etc.
  • Adaptation of curriculum, instruction, equipment and facilities.
  • Assistance in academic skills related to program: mathematics, reading, and writing.
  • Facilitation of transition from secondary to post-secondary to work after completion of program.
  • Coordination of counseling and career guidance with Career & Technical Counselor and Career & Technical Advisors.
  • Arrangement for tutoring through Student Support Services for academic subjects that Special Populations personnel are unable to provide.
  • Coordination of services with the Director of Disability Support Services, who is responsible for all students with disabilities campus wide

A diverse method of instruction is used in providing services to those identified students. Students receive a variety of instructions ranging from individualized instruction to updated computer remediation programs. This process is to ensure that those students master competencies and learn employability skills to assist them in becoming successful in the world of work.
